Monday's Meeting: Celebrating World Polio Day: Dr. Debra Houry, former CDC Chief Medical Director

Rotary International has been at the center of the global crusade against polio since launching its PolioPlus program in 1985, helping reduce cases worldwide by over 99.9% alongside international partners.

Attending this World Polio Day event with former CDC Chief Medical Director Dr. Debra Houry offers us a vital opportunity to reconnect with that proud legacy and gain expert insights into the final stretch of eradication.

With wild poliovirus now endemic in only two countries, the finish line is within reach—making continued awareness, advocacy, and support critical.

Four Chances to Show Up (and Show Off) for Buckhead Rotary

The next three weeks are packed, and each one is a chance to show Buckhead what Service Above Self looks like.

This Saturday, Oct. 17, our Pawsitivity Partnership with LifeLine hosts a Healthy Pet Event at Atlanta Technical College. More than 1,500 pets are expected for vaccines, microchips and spay/neuter vouchers. Volunteer shifts start early, so sign up through the club calendar and note you’re with Buckhead Rotary. RSVP HERE

Monday, Oct. 19, Dr. Debra Houry, former Chief Medical Director of the CDC, brings us an update on polio eradication ahead of World Polio Day on Saturday, Oct. 24. Bring a guest! RSVP HERE

Friday, Oct. 30, 5–7 p.m., we meet our Horizons Atlanta Scholars at Glow Chastain at the Chastain Park Playground. Bring a bag of candy and a costume. The kids will vote for their favorite Rotarian costume, and bragging rights are on the line. RSVP HERE

Sunday, Nov. 1, we cheer on Atlanta United together at our ATL United Group Night.  The game starts at 4:30pm playing Toronto.  These are great seats and should be a lot of fun.

Here’s my ask: wear your Buckhead Rotary T-shirt (or a costume for Glow Chastain) and carry your Rotary coins. Future Rotarians will be everywhere. Hand them a coin and invite them to lunch on us.

See you out there!

Inspiring Read for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by Our Own Liz Loreti!

Go Pink: October 26 Meeting

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to encourage everyone to read a powerful guest column recently published in SaportaReport, written by our very own Rotarian, Liz Loreti. .

As the Executive Director of Iris Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, Liz shines a light on an often-overlooked aspect of survivorship: the critical need for post-treatment rehabilitation, physical recovery, and equitable access to care for all survivors.

Her article is a moving reminder of the work still needed to support individuals and families navigating life after cancer, embodying our Rotary spirit of Service Above Self.

Please take a few minutes to read and share Liz's insightful piece!

Also, Iris has an anonymous $50,000 matching gift for all donations received this month. If anyone feels compelled to give, it makes a huge difference for us, especially supporting local survivors. Donation page: https://irisbcr.org

Save the date! Let's go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 26!
